Our top Valentine’s Day ideas for foodies

Valentine’s Day is scarily creeping around the corner. Yes, some may see it as a commercialised ‘Hallmark’ holiday but be that as it may… if you don’t do something, you’re screwed. I’m looking at you fellas!

So here are our top Valentine’s Day gift ideas for foodies. From the first date, to the 10 year romance and singles too (we didn’t rule out the fun for you)!

New flame/first date

Let’s keep it light, okay? Nothing toooo intense and serious but still a fun and thoughtful night out. This is one to keep both the fellas and the ladies happy.

Take in the unique sites of The Moonlight Cinema at Centennial Park, munch away on some snacks and sit down and relax to watch one of the most famous movies of all time, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Borderline chick-flick, yes but full on classic.

You can pack your own picnic or just grab a feast of the ‘dude food’ variety… sliders, empanadas, tacos, chilli dogs, you name it! There is also quite a well stocked bar that includes some nice looking cocktails.

Tickets are $18 per person and the feature starts at sundown. I’d suggest spending a little extra for a ticket in Gold Grass. Although they are $33 per person, it includes reserved premium seating with comfy bean bed hire and personal wait staff services for food and drinks, which means you don’t have to wait in lines!

Romantic? A little… Loads of fun? Yes…

6 month honeymooning…

You’re thinking… it’s meant to be. That you’re invincible. A replicated romance of Noah and Allie in The Notebook, right? So it’s not going to take a huge extravagant expense to be happy spending the day together…

Why not head down to Newtown’s Black Star Pastry and sicken other patrons whilst feeding each other Christopher The’s beautifully adorned pastries. I suggest the perfectly harmonious strawberry, watermelon cake with rose cream, the simply decadent chocolate macadamia brownie, the delicate orange cake with Persian figs, and quince, gently embellished in rose petals and a miniature pyramid of lemon meringue basil jelly to round things off. Ahhh… I can feel the (pastry) love.

The whole shebang

If you’re going all out, you may as well go all out and head for Sydney’s best. That’s restaurant of the year, Sepia.

There is no way you can go wrong here. Let’s start with credentials… Restaurant of the Year, check. Award-winning Sommelier, Rodney Setter, check. Marco Pierre White trained and Chef of the Year, Martin Benn, check. And a 17/20 from Terry Durack, unheard of!

The food is chic, flawless, exciting and innovative. This is the gift for the experimental foodie, who will eat anything. Think Cocoa and sansho seared Mandagery creek venison, baby beetroots, rhubarb, chocolate, beetroot and boudin noir crumb. The degustation is the way to go at $150 a head, plus $90 for matching wines.

Impressive for slightly less…

Organise a beautiful picnic for your loved one with the Sydney Picnic Company. And when I say organise, I just mean, give them a call. They do everything for you!

This is a really great idea if you are running out of time and want to seriously seduce that gourmand at heart. All the goodies are fresh of the day and sourced from Sydney’s best providores. The picnics are also completely customised to the occasion and guests with personalised handcrafted menus and cute eco-friendly plates and cutlery.

Their Valentine’s Day picnic is a carefully concocted riot of flavours that will hit the tastebuds like an arrow from Cupid himself. Be warned, it is aphrodisiac themed- so please use responsibly.

Just some of the items on the menu include Peach, prosciutto, mozzarella & mint salad, Pasture fed chargrilled beef fillet with salsa verde and Valrhona chocolate pots with amaretti biscuits marinated strawberries.

For $210, for two, it’s seriously impressive site for a loved one, that require very little organization of your own, but shhhh don’t tell them that!
