Manon Camille Dallée
is the publisher and chief editor of Camille & Co. and one of the founding directors behind Food Jobs.
Manon is a true food enthusiast who literally has never met an ingredient she didn’t like. And although she is partial to beautiful pastries, interesting tapas and bold red wine – she is not one to discriminate when it comes to food. You will often find her either in the kitchen making marshmallows, traipsing the markets for interesting products, sitting in some of Sydney’s latest bars and restaurants or reading the about industry news over a biscotti and espresso at Fratelli.
Her background and upbringing reads like a European soap opera, which has been confusing at times for many including her. She was been lucky enough to have been brought up around an eclectic cultural mix of people that allowed her to observe and learn about different cultures, ways of living and ways of eating from a very young age.
In between a Hungarian grandmother, Italian grandfather, Australian mother, French and British fathers with a mix of Irish, Algerian and Singaporean influences in between, she always has identified food and its rituals and traditions as a lifestyle and an evolving relationship. It can be said that Manon was definitely not in any sense of the word an undernourished child.
“I was definitely not the average kid at school, when my friends were reading The Chronicles of Narnia, I’d have the fresh Gourmet Traveller by my side on the school desk.”
It is no surprise that Manon quickly took up one of her first jobs in the hospitality industry at a pie shop, later moving on to work full time at a number of reputable cheese shops, restaurants and cafes around Sydney, whilst studying a Bachelor of Business. Her love and passion for the industry grew stronger by the day but finding the right position and fit for her in the industry was a constant battle. Manon had always wanted to pursue a career as a pastry chef but quickly realised that her inability to take orders mixed with her stubborn nature and strive for perfection was not suited to the hectic atmosphere of a commercial kitchen.
It was through some personal contacts that Manon was introduced to the idea of bringing a niche job site to the food and beverage industry. After a few convincing chats it didn’t take much to get Manon at the keyboard and in the restaurants.
So along with her business partners JobServe (the world’s first ever existing job site), David Cowling (IT fanatic and COO JobServe, JOBNET, JobDispatch, and Social Media News) and Michael Kelly (Property and Finance) they have set out to celebrate and support the industry in creating the food employment destination, foodjobs.com.au.
